Does my child need to be potty trained?
No. Potty training can be one of the most difficult developmental stepping stones. It can be frustrating for the child and parent. We need to have realistic expectations. Because toilet mastery is developmental, all children will not be potty trained by a specific age. As children mature, they will develop a need for independence and begin to show interest in using the toilet. We will love your child and give them guidance and encouragement as they achieve this skill.
How do you handle pickup time if someone else is picking up?
We must have a parent’s consent for a child to go home with someone else. The person picking up will be required to show us identification. No child will be released to anyone other than those authorized by the parent.
Are you state licensed and why?
SonLight Preschool is a licensed 5-STAR preschool. All programs in the state of Kentucky are required to be licensed if they offer education and instruction to children more than two hours per day or ten hours per week. This includes Christian-based programs. Our program also follows Kentucky Early Childhood Standards. We believe that our children deserve the best!
How do you handle discipline?
Positive re-enforcement and redirection of behavior are used to help children learn self-control, problem-solving, negotiation, and build self-esteem. At times, it may be necessary to remove the child from the situation and give them ‘time away’ time. This allows the child to talk with the teacher and come back into the group when the child is ready. It empowers the child to make good choices. We understand that discipline is a learning experience and it must be taught in a positive way.
What does ‘Christian-based Program’ mean?
Christian-based means that we put God first in everything we do. Children are taught that God loves them and Jesus is our ‘Forever Friend’. Our program offers a basic foundation in Bible stories. Children are taught about God through music, stories, props, and our everyday actions. Our staff members are followers of Christ and attend different churches in our area.
